Who We Are

The Nusura Foundation is a Canadian not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing public education and learning in response to systemic inequities affecting Black communities. Our work focuses on how these inequities shape experiences across justice, health, and social systems, with the aim of strengthening understanding and supporting more informed responses across communities in Canada.

Why We Exist

Why We Exist

Systemic inequities and anti-Black racism continue to shape how systems, including justice, health, and social supports, are experienced and understood. Across Canada, there are limited opportunities for public education that provide accessible support for communities navigating these realities, leaving gaps in shared understanding and prevention-oriented responses.

The Nusura Foundation exists to address this by advancing public education and community-informed initiatives that strengthen understanding and support more effective responses, particularly for Black communities disproportionately affected by these inequities.

Our Approach

We view education as a critical pathway to prevention, informed decision-making, and community well-being. Our work is guided by the following principles:

Prioritizing education over punitive responses, with a focus on learning-centred approaches

Grounding our work in evidence and research-informed practices

Collaborating with community partners to ensure context-driven and meaningful engagement

Advancing public education with a commitment to accountability and impact

All of our work is delivered for educational purposes and public benefit.

Scope of Work

The Nusura Foundation focuses on public education and knowledge-sharing. As such, the Foundation does not provide individual services such as counselling, personal assessments, or legal representation.

Why This Work Is Needed

Across Canada, there are limited opportunities for public education that help people make sense of prevention, accountability, and justice-related systems outside of service delivery or advocacy. As a result, many communities are left navigating complex systems with limited access to clear, accessible information.

These gaps are especially pronounced for Black communities, where anti-Black racism and systemic inequities continue to shape how information is accessed and understood.

The Nusura Foundation responds to these gaps by advancing public education and knowledge-sharing that strengthen understanding and support more informed responses.
